Planners Comments.
My main concern when planning this event was, the forestry activities being carried out by the forest rangers. They are very active at the moment grubbing out rhododendrons etc and clearing the land. It seemed to me that every time I went there they were working in a new area. I became paranoid that they would mutilate the parts that I was using for control sites. Fortunately my courses remained intact.
On arrival on Saturday morning to put out the controls we were greeted by the spectacular sight of the low lying mist all around us. Looking northwards you could see the church in East Grinstead, and the radio mast in Sharpthorne poking through like islands in a sea of cloud. If only I had my camera with me!!
From the comments I heard the courses were well received. I was surprised by the variety of route choices people used. What seemed an obvious route to me, others found other ways of getting there, which is what it’s all about.
Many thanks go to Andy Parkinson and Vince Joyce for putting out controls early Saturday, Mike Hooper and Ali Weller especially, for taking on the main work of collecting controls, assisted by Bob Davis and Tim Bartlett.  Sue and I had to leave before the final clear up, so as to get home early so we could go out to London for the evening. Thanks also to Claire Teesdale for helping with map sales; Peter and Jaquie Drake for running the event computer system.
Finally I wasn’t pleased to hear that some competitors crossed the out of bounds golf course upsetting some golfers in the process. Things like this only give us a bad name, and could jeopardise our future use of a lovely area to run in
